Step into Paisley’s past on heritage walks
The Urban Historian Stephen Clancy launches a summer season of heritage walks on Saturday.
A walk called‘Paisley: A step into the past’kicks proceedings off.
Stephen said:“This heritage walk explores County Square and the Wallneuk area of Paisley – from markets and taxi cabs, architecture to executions, railways and furniture businesses.
“There is a lot to discover about this area that is often overlooked by visitors and locals alike.
“Other walks taking place in May and June include the areas of Lonend and Seedhill, Causeyside, The Sneddon and churches and graveyards.
“There will also be a new walk in conjunction with‘Our Linen Stories’on Friday, May 24 exploring Paisley’s textile heritage.
“All walks remain at the very affordable price of £5.50 and start at 1pm.”
Two courses, Beginners Genealogy and Renfrewshire Archaeology, rescheduled from earlier in the year, are due to run in June and July. The four-week courses will be held in The Art Department at the Paisley Centre on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm, and cost £60 per course.
Beginners Genealogy will explore the basics of genealogical research, using online records such as ScotlandsPeople for birth, marriage and death records, church records, census and how to keep a record of your discoveries.
Renfrewshire Archaeology will introduce you to the early history of the county of Renfrew, exploring prehistoric settlement in the area through to the Roman and Medieval time periods.
If you are interested in commissioning Stephen to research your genealogy/ family history on your behalf, several different research packages are also available, with full details available on his website.
