Paisley hospice team’s decades of care

1982: The first public meeting was held in the John Neilston School to discuss the need and feasibilit­y of a hospice in the County of Renfrew. 1985: Two Accord Home care nurses appointed, initally funded by Macmillan.

1985-1990: The home care team expanded to four nurses. Supported 1,500 patients and undertook 18,000 home visits during this time. 1987: The hospice team left its original premises on Back Sneddon Street and moved to the current site on part of the old Hawkhead Hospital, now known as Hawkhead Village.

1991: The Capital Building Appeal raised over £750,000 to renovate ward 6 and develop an inpatient unit. 1992: 17th March saw the first patient admitted to the Inpatient Unit.

Later that year, Princess Diana officially opened the unit.

1997: The inpatient

Unit was extended and refurbishe­d to enhance the facilities for patients and families.

2006: The hospice purchased the land at Hawkhead Village from the Health Board. Accord also received the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

2015: The hospice decided it was time to rebrand, changing its corporate colours and all branding.

2016: The current chair of the board, Dr Phil Hanlon, is appointed after serving as a board member for several years. 2017: Accord celebrates its 35th anniversar­y and the 25th since the opening of the Inpatient Unit. The Inpatient Unit decanted to Montrose House to allow refurbishm­ent of the unit. 2018: The £1.1m developmen­t of the Inpatient Unit created eight single rooms with en-suite wet rooms. 2020: The hospice helped launch the Renfrewshi­re Bereavment Network. 2021: Accord Launches Accord @ Home, providing personal, practical and emotional support.

2022: Accord celebrates its 40th anniversar­y.
