Raging dad threatened partner he would ‘send man through her door’
A Johnstone dad threatened to “send a man through the door” of his former partner’s house.
Nathan Stewart, 23, threatened Laura Wilson on a call that took place over Facebook Messenger in the early hours of April 16.
Stewart, of Elm Drive, admitted repeatedly contacting his partner via social media and repeatedly making threatening remarks towards her on April 16, while within a property on Highcraig Avenue, Johnstone.
Procurator fiscal depute Jason Stark told Paisley Sheriff Court that the couple have been in an on/ off relationship for two years and have one young child together.
Mr Stark explained: “On April 16, the accused began to phone and message Ms Wilson via Facebook Messenger.
“Around 1.30am, the accused and Ms Wilson were on a phone call and she put the phone on loudspeaker for a witness to overhear.
“The accused then made a threat to send a guy that he was sitting with to Paisley to go through their door.
“Later in another call, both Ms Wilson and the witness heard the same threats suggesting that an unknown male would barge through their door without permission.
“Ms Wilson could identify the voice on the call of that of the accused.
“At 6.30am, she contacted the police to report the matter.
“And at 9.50am, the accused was traced, cautioned and charged.”
Defence agent Charlie McCusker told the court it was unclear who had initiated the call.
Mr McCusker added: “There were numerous calls and messages to each other and there were no threats in the written messages.
“His record is one that causes concern, but since his release from prison, he has secured employment with the laundry department of the NHS.
“The parties want to reconcile, they have a sevenweek-old child together and he wants to put this behind him and be a good role model for his child.
“He regrets his behaviour and is disappointed as the argument was about his inability to assist and look after the child.
“He wants to do his best now.”
Sentencing, Sheriff Lindsay Kooner said: “Your record is concerning, but I do note you were released from prison in 2020 and remain subject to supervision and you don’t appear to have come to the attention of the court until this matter.
“There appears to be some positive aspects in your life, so I will deal with this today with a community payback order.”
Sheriff Kooner ordered Stewart to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the community within 12 months.
