Linwood Boxing Club’s youngsters put on a fine show in front of Scottish boxing royalty Ricky Burns.

The three-time world champion was in attendance at the club’s show in Linwood Welfare Club, their first since before the pandemic struck.

The night went off without a hitch, with the show selling out and family and friends enjoying 12 bouts on the night.

Burns was also a star attraction, taking in the fights and posing for selfies with lots of young Renfrewshire boxing fans.

Linwood Boxing Club’s Alison McIntyre, who works for Boxing Scotland, was delighted with how well their first show back went and thanked everyone who attended and supported the night.

McIntyre said: “The entire night was brilliant.

“The show was a sell out which was fantastic and everyone was great.

“It was a brilliant night of boxing and it was so great to see the young boxers back in the ring in front of a proper crowd.

“Ricky came to the show and was superb with everyone.

“There were a lot of people trying to get their picture taken with him and his belts and he was more than happy to take time with them.

“He’s a top man and we’re really grateful he came along on the night.”

McIntyre, who runs Linwood Boxing Club with her husband John – a former professional boxer – hopes they have managed to inspire even more youngsters in Renfrewshire to take up the gloves.

She added “We’re always on the lookout for new members from the age of 12, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’re interested in taking up the sport.”
