Talented Evelyn has designs on success

A West College Scotland student steered her way to first place in a competition run by former footballing hero Tony Fitzpatrick.

Evelyn Crow came up with the winning number for the rebranding of Legacy Comps prize bonanza after creating a stunning sunshine-style themed design.

She walked away knowing her design will now be the face of Tony’s business as it will appear on the website, competitions and company car.

In addition, she was also awarded a £100 high street voucher.

At the start of the project, HNC graphic and animation students were tasked with creating a design for Legacy Comps as part of a rebranding exercise by the St Mirren legend.

Students were able to gain experience of creating a design for a client as part of their studies – and were given a brief by Tony as to what they were looking to see.

It also allowed for operating under strict commercial time constraints which would replicate the real world of working, allowing them to have a full work experience opportunity.

Tony congratulated Evelyn on her work and said he was “very excited to work with Evelyn and take her creative vision forward to rebrand Legacy Comps”.

Meanwhile, proud Evelyn said: “Working with Legacy Comps was a very exciting and inspiring experience.

“I learned a lot in the process of working with clients and thanks to helpful lecturers I was able to produce a professional design.

“Tony Fitzpatrick created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere at the meetings and the whole experience was very encouraging.

“I am very proud to have won the first prize and looking forward even more to my future design projects.”

Design and media lecturer Craig Peacock added: “Live projects, like Legacy Comps logo design, allow the students an insight into industry standards, quality and time management, within a realworld setting.

“Tony from Legacy Comps and his guest presenter Jed were both open to the students’ queries, and they supported the students through discursive feedback.

“In all, this was a great experience for the students.”

Runner-up Jordan Storrs and third-placed Mariia Tkachuk may have not won the competition overall but said that taking part in the project was enjoyable, as the experience was invaluable to them.

The pair also received vouchers for the high street; second place got a £50 coupon and third place £25.

Speaking about the entries received from the Paisley campus, Tony said he was over the moon with the standard produced and told how all those who took part were gifted with a £10 credit for the Legacy Comps website.

He added: “We have been absolutely blown away by the creativity and high standard of professional work that the students have produced.

“It took many conversations and many hours of deliberation, and we are delighted to award £10 credit for the Legacy Comps website to all the students for their efforts.”
