Measures to prevent speeding on road to be probed by council

- JACK THOMSON, LOCAL DEMOCRACY REPORTER

Council officers are considering measures for a stretch of road in Paisley in response to concerns about speeding drivers.

The local authority monitored Foxbar Road for a period in November – and have now identified that action would be “beneficial”.

The road already has some speed bumps but dangerous driving remains a worry for members of the community.

Renfrewshire Council’s roads team is now investigating the nature of improvements required for the area.

It has confirmed it will look to introduce any changes once it has canvassed local opinion on the matter.

Councillor Stephen Burns, who represents Paisley Southwest, said he was pleased to see the that people’s voices had been heard.

He said: “There has been a significant number of complaints since we have come out of the pandemic about speeding in this particular area.

“The council has put additional speed bumps in, but there is a stretch that doesn’t have them.

“There are often problems with irresponsible drivers going along the road late at night, which needed to be addressed.

“With that in mind, I’m pleased the council has responded to people’s concerns and identified that

Foxbar Road would benefit from action to reduce the speed of drivers.

“It shows that we are listening to people who are worried about this type of behaviour in their community. Dangerous driving is not acceptable and we will continue to do our best to deal with it.”

The council said that there had been no accidents on this section of road in the last five years.

However, it still recognised the need to cut the speed of vehicles and enhance the safety of the area.

A spokesperson told the Express: “Following a speed survey, we have identified that, despite there being no injury accidents on this section of road in the last five years, action would be beneficial to reduce the speed of drivers heading westbound.

“Our roads team are now investigating the improvements required and will seek to implement them following engagement with the local community.”
