No pain, no gain

- GO HARD OR GO HOME BBC1 10.40pm/11.10pm Wales

RADIO 1’s Jordan North has rounded up eight young Brits who’ve lost their way and need a life reboot.

They’ve travelled 4000 miles to an idyllic lush paradise, but this is no holiday.

Instead, each of The Trainees – all in their 20s – will choose a Warrior who will put them through four weeks of pain.

As they test their bodies and minds to the limit there’ll be blood, sweat, tears and bustups. And not everyone will survive the regime.

When Jordan greets the recruits someone’s immediately in for a grilling.

“A little bird told me that one of you had seven bottles of wine on the plane?” he says. “Just the miniature ones…” Faith from Newcastle offers in her defence.

The Warriors are led by coach Paul Olima and include a psychologist, personal trainers and sports stars, including former footballer Ashley Cain, who faced his own toughest challenge with his late daughter Azaylia’s cancer battle.

“Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is the best thing you’ll ever do,’ encourages Jordan, who braved Bushtucker Trials to finish as runner up on I’m A Celebrity… in 2020.

But the show is about so much more than competition.

“The whole premise of Go Hard or Go Home is to help out people who have had a bit of a tough time either due to the pandemic, health problems, bereavement, confidence issues or mental health issues,” says Jordan.

“It’s raw, inspirational and relatable,” reckons Ashley.

And once you’ve heard some of The Trainees’ stories, you’re going to be rooting for them to go the distance.
