Hashtag claim top spot in pool league

-

There was a change at the top of the table as the Paisley Burgh Pool League starts to head into the business end of the season.

First took on second this week with Pockets C facing Hashtag A. Pockets took the first frame with Hashtag quickly levelling it up.

Jamie Turner put Pockets back in front with a superb break and finish clearance, leaving his opponent unable to even visit the table.

Pockets stretched their lead to 3-1 and were looking comfortable but the Hashtag team never backed down and miraculously won four frames on the spin to take the lead going into the doubles.

All it took was the next two frames for the Hashtag to claim an important victory that saw them go top of the table for the first time this year. For Pockets it was a second defeat in two weeks that saw them slip from first to fourth.

Spateston faced Hashtag B, with the former potting their opponents off the table with an epic 7-1 win. Spateston set off their win claiming the first three frames before Sean Elliot claimed a frame back for the Hashtag.

That was as good as it got for his team as Spateston put away the next four frames to seal an early night victory.

Patter’s battle with Clippens A went down to the wire with the Patter eventually taking the points.

After eight frames the teams were all square, with the first two doubles frames claimed by the home team.

That proved to be the difference and on the twelfth frame Davy Rodgers and Jim Sharp stepped up to seal a 7-5 win.

Lilybank beat Pockets B 7-3, with the win lifting Lilybank up to third in the table.

Jaybees’meeting with Sammi’s ended after 10 frames with the Jaybees sealing a 7-3 victory. Sammi’s hit the ground running and found themselves up 3-1.

But Aidan Downie of Jaybees levelled it up and the hosts never lost another frame, winning six on the spin to jump up to seventh in the table. Sammi’s have now gone four weeks without picking up any points.

Clippens B took on Killoch A, with the visitors winning 7-3 on the night. Clippens slide down the table after their second loss in the space of a week.

Horseshoe extended their unbeaten season with a 7-1 win against the Red Fox in Paisley.

Starting strong they went 5-0 ahead and it was game over on the eighth frame when Terry McLernon put his team over the line.

Hazel’s match with Pocket A went all the way to the deciding frame on the night, with the spoils evetually going to Pockets. The win allowed Pockets to leapfrog the Hazel in the league, moving them up to fifth.

Killoch B’s match with St Peters was postponed until a later date.
