Trio accused of assault smoked drugs together on same evening

Court hears woman told cops neighbour assaulted them

- EMYLIE HOWIE

A jury has heard how three women accused of seriously assaulting a vulnerable man spent the evening together smoking cocaine.

Kelly Mannion, 39, Lesley Wynd, 56, described as a prisoner of Polmont, and Claire MacFadyen, 38, of Belmont Road, Paisley, are all standing trial at Paisley Sheriff Court alleged to have seriously assaulted Steven Barr at Mannion’s flat on Motehill Road, Paisley.

Mr Barr claims the assault took place in Mannion’s property where it is alleged he was struck by a hammer and stabbed with a knife before being pushed or kicked down a flight of stairs.

Yesterday, the trial heard evidence from a police officer who conducted interviews after the alleged incident.

A video was shown to the court of Detective Constable Dougie McGlynn interviewing Wynd at Greenock police station the day after the alleged assault.

During the interview, Wynd states Mr Barr “came lashing” through Mannion’s front door and assaulted them.

DC McGlynn asked Wynd what she was doing on April 16 at Mannion’s property, and she replied, “smoking pipes” stating the trio had smoked around £50 worth of cocaine that night.

DC McGlynn asked Wynd why Mr Barr attended at Mannion’s property.

During the interview, Wynd stated: “He likes to get spanked and he dresses up in woman’s clothing. I call him Little Bo Peep.

“I find it hilarious he dresses up in woman’s clothing.

“I find it rather odd. He pays Kelly to do it.

“I think he’s had cancer treatment and he wears a nappy. He came over asking for Kelly to change it. She feels sorry for him.”

The court was also shown a video of 38-yearold MacFadyen’s police interview where she provided a “no comment” response to the majority of questions.

However, MacFadyen stated Mr Barr was “battering the absolute daylights out of all three of us”.

Mr Barr previously told the jury how he was struck repeatedly over the head with a hammer and attacked with a knife before he was able to make his escape from the flat.

He told the court he had attended at the property to discuss money he claimed had been taken from his bank account.

Mr Barr claimed when he entered Mannion’s home, he was quickly assaulted from behind with a hammer before McFadyen attacked him with a “silver object” he believed was a knife.

He also told the court that once he escaped the flat, he was then kicked down a flight of stairs.

Defence agents of the three accused put to Mr Barr that he, in fact, assaulted the women after attending at Mannion’s property “after drinking” and was “angry over money”.

He claimed this was untrue.

All three women are facing a charge that states they assaulted Mr Barr on April 16, 2022 at a flat in Motehill Road by repeatedly punching and kicking him on the head and body; by repeatedly striking him on the body with a knife, knives or similar implements; and by striking him on the head with an unknown object and by kicking him on the body causing him to fall down a flight of stairs, all to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

The three accused deny the charge against them.

The trial before Sheriff Gillian Craig continues.
