Malone on target with best of year

The Paisley and District darts players were out in force this week with a full fixture list played out producing some of the closest games of the season.

In Division One Hagg Bar A have been in fine form recently but had their work cut out when The New Saints visited them.

It was a closely contested game, but the strength of the home players showed through in the end as they ran out 6-3 winners with Hagg Bar A’s Mick Malone equalling the highest finish of the year and the fastest leg of the year in his match.

The win keeps Hagg Bar A’s unbeaten run intact with 11 wins from 11.

Pockets A moved up the table to claim second spot after a very strong performanc­e of their own as they hosted Hagg Bar C and showed a bit of class with a fine 8-1 win.

Pockets sit on 20 points just two points behind the leaders while the Hagg Bar C stay in ninth place, still on four points.

The Clachan Arrows lost out on second as a result of a very hard fought 5-4 home win for Flying Horse with the game going all the way to the last doubles game before being decided.

The win for Flying Horse keeps them in fifth place on 12 points, but gives them a two-point cushion over The New Saints.

Court Bar kept a grip on fourth spot in the table, just two points behind Clachan Arrows, after a fine 7-2 win over Arthurlie Inns.

The last game in Division One saw The Midton take on Gryffe Inn A and it was the home team that proved to be the more resilient as they ran out 6-3 winners.

The result now gives Midton a four-point gap from the bottom three teams. Gryffe Inn A remained in 10th, still without a win for the year.

In Division Two, leaders The Hazel Nuts lost their unbeaten record at Tartan Rose with a 5-4 loss ina thriller that went to the last doubles match. The Hazel Nuts are still top on 18 points.

The game of the night was at Keystone as the Keystone and Keystone B faced each other with the possibilit­y for Keystone of taking over as league leaders.

The singles games stood at 4-2 to Keystone B, with four of the six singles games ending in a 3-2 scoreline.

Keystone then rattled off the first two doubles games to even the match at 4-4, before George Dickson and Mark Moohan came up for Keystone B to take the match 5-4.

Next week sees the finals of this year’s Hagg Bar Trophy at The Hagg Bar.

Hagg Bar A face The New Saints while Pockets A face Gryffe Inn A.
