A Glenburn social club is aiming to help the most vulnerable after being awarded £5,250 in funding. time, there are people who are worse off than those at the club – and they wanted to help after learning their grant application had been successful.

Bill had applied for funding through the Corra Foundation after discovering they were eligible.

The £250 allocated to the club to specifically cover its distribution costs was also added to the pot and allowed the members to buy even more vouchers for those in need.

Speaking to the Express,

Bill explained that despite most of the members at the club being pensioners, and the cost of living also hitting those in that category hard, everyone was eager to proceed with the initiative and thanked those who have helped make it happen.

He said: “After discovering we could get the funding, we went about looking at the best way to identify those who need it most, as in really need it.

“The vouchers have reached people all over Renfrewshire and we want to thank the health visitors in our area because they helped identify those who needed it most, as well as some charitable organisations in Glenburn.

“Due to data protection, we don’t know who has been given them or haven’t heard back from all organisations, but the ones we have heard back from have said that it has made a huge difference to the people.

“I would love to say thank you to everyone who has helped because we couldn’t have done it without the members of the club and the people who helped identify those in need.”

He added: “Everyone at the club just feels so proud to be part of this project as the club is more than just a social gathering.”

Bill has been treasurer of the club for over 25 years and says in that time things have changed massively.

The club was once a place for people to come and chat but now it is much more as it is something that people love being a part of, and love their community.

The treasurer also said that if anything comes up in the future that would allow them to help the community again, then they will be at the front to make sure they can assist.
