Back up individual files

-

1 Select your source Despite its name, DiskImage is just as happy working with individual files as it is with complete volumes. To back up individual files and folders, select “File operation” on the top tab bar, then browse to find the files you want to secure. Tick the boxes beside folders to select them in their entirety; you can choose as many as you like, even if scattered across different volumes.

3 Pick a destination To perform a one-off backup, click “Start file backup” and select a destination for the copied files. To restore the files later, pick “Start file restoration” from the button bar, then select the archive. The “Select target” button lets you specify where the files should be restored – allowing you to restore older files without overwriting the latest versions.

2 Specify options DiskImage doesn’t apply encryption by default, but if you’re backing up sensitive data you might want to click on “File backup options” and choose an encryption mode. Compression options are here, too, and you can also configure DiskImage to split your backup across multiple files – so you can, for example, store it on multiple DVD-R discs.

4 Automate the process You should back up your system on a regular basis, particularly work files that are frequently updated. To set up a scheduled backup, rather than clicking “Start file backup”, click “Add as job”. Give the job a name so you can identify it later, then work through the various tabs, setting a backup time and configuring how the archive should be named.
