Logitech MX Ergo

-

The last time Logitech released a trackball, Apple’s iPhones were just breaking into the mainstream. Almost a decade on, the company thinks it’s time to resurrect the mouse-alternative input device.

The company claims the device reduces muscular strain by 20% and that one of the trackball’s new features is based on feedback from long-standing users, who have added Heath Robinson-esque wedges to existing hardware to make the angle more comfortable.

To recreate these home hacks, the MX Ergo features a hinge that allows users to set the trackball mounting angle from 0 to 20 degrees to the desk.

Trackballs can take a lot of getting used to (and many people never get to grips with the controls), but Logitech believes it has made navigation easier with a granular tool that allows users to change the sensitivity by hitting one of the device’s eight buttons.

Sweeping navigation is done at speed, while the precision mode allows for delicate fine tuning.

The controller is compatible with Logitech’s Easy-Switch and Flow tools, which enable multiscreen navigation, as well as copy and pasting between computers that are running different operating systems.
