Best Tablet Manufacturer Microsoft

HIGHLY COMMENDED Apple

-

It’s the end of an era. Change was in the air last year when Apple had to share the Best Tablet

Manufac turer throne with Microsoft, but 2020 has brought about a coup d’état. Apple’s downfall? The word that came up time and again was “expensive” – especially in referen ce to the accessori es and memory.

“Apple’s acces sories (such as the Smart

Keyboard) are overpriced,” argued reader Mark Lewchenko, while Alan Thomas went one furt her: “Appl e accessories are very dear and not very well made.”

Even Apple devotees raised their concerns. “I own three iPads. The only thing I don’t like is that there’s no slot for a memory card: it makes you pay over the odds for extra memory. Shame on Apple,” wrote Edward Jeffery. Still, the iPads remain superb pieces of kit. As Michael Bell put it: “It does what it says on the box: it’s fast, rel i able and superb qual ity.”

Micro soft seems to have won beca use of its tablet s’ lapto p- replacin g credentials. “My Surfa ce Pro is so good I’m using it in prefere nce to my home PC or laptop most of the time,” explained Anthony Sheehan. It was a sentiment also voiced by Kevin Thorpe :“My tablet’ s a great little device when I don’t need a full- blown laptop but need something bigger than a phone.”

Third - place Samsung was the only Android tablet maker in the top half of our table, but one anonymous respondent was bothe red by the bloatware : “I just want stock Android, none of the ‘ tweaks’ that Samsung adds. It takes too long to disab le all this bad softwar e and get the table t to something like stock Android.”
