Once again, Google wins on camera quality (with a total of 93% to OnePlu s’ 85%) and customer support, but was bested in every other category . OnePlus’ eye-catching 97% in the speed metric proves that it’s still the Lewis Hamilt on of phone brands, as reader Michael Vermeersch effuse d: “The spee d! The memory! I’ ll never be worried again. .. it’s the one phone I’v e had for over two year s and I’m still not thinking of changing .”
And there was plenty more praise to choose from in our survey. “I love the OnePlus brand . This is the second phone I’ve purch ased and will continue to purcha se a OnePlus in the future,” wrote Teresa Childs. Yet Pete r Mahoney had a warnin g for OnePlus: “A very competi tive phone when first introduced; not so much now with the latest model reaching top pri cing. OnePlus is highly regarded among phone enthusi asts, but it will need to up its game to kee p its followers.”
Else where, readers lauded Google’s cameras and the ease of updating Android directl y from the sourc e. “Camera quality was unto uchable – it’s far beyond the other manufacturers. Software updates were very consistent as it was from Google. The build quality and design is also of a high standard,” wrote Imran Ali. Caroline Picking provided a similar assessment: “Google don’t make the sexiest- looking phones but they make the phones that are just the best to use with a great camera.”
Beleaguere d manufacturer Huawei – which has been caught in the middle of the US- China trade confl ict – drop ped from sixth place last year to eighth this year.
