If you’re live streaming that means instant sound effects, high-quality audio and live insights into your audience. The Nexus aims to give you all three.
Its key attraction is a 5in touch panel that you can configure in software. Let’s say you have five prerecorded sound effects: drop in five shortcuts, associate them each with a sound, customise the images and you have a ready-made selection of effects to choose between during your broadcast. You can also drop in simple buttons, such as setting the input mic to mute.
You may prefer to use the Nexus to monitor events. For example, by default the main screen gives an at-a-glance view of all your input settings, from the mic level to games. There are also a trio of software buttons for Twitch and YouTube, so you can see how many are watching your stream and watch the chat as it unfolds. There are physical controls too. Four easy-to-hit rubber buttons, which can be customised, and six dials to control the input levels.
There are four our inputs around the back: one ne optical in for a console, an XLR mic input, and a 3.5mm line in. There’s ere’s also a 3.5mm line out and a headphone jack, plus the USB-B port that you’ll need to connect the Nexus exus to your PC or Mac. There’s re’s no local storage. Audio quality will be dictated by the mic, but AVerMedia rMedia provides a solid base with the he promise of 24-bit, 96kHz sampling and a 114dB dynamic range. There isn’t t a noise you can make that it won’t capture.
So, is it worth the money? Given everything this mini production studio does, it’s hard to argue with the value for money. The RodeCaster Pro costs over £500, whilst similarly priced rivals can’t match the large, customisable screen. If you’re serious about streaming, this is a great-value choice.
