In a narrowing field of printer manufacturers, onl y one stands out in the 2021 awards : Brother. It retains its crown, one it has held many times over the years, by outper formin g its rivals in every single category: print quality, reliability, value and speed. Only a middling customer servic e score of 73% dents what is an otherwise magnificent performance, although even that score still betters any other printer manufacturer’s.

Why do PC Pro readers valu e their Brother printers? “The Brother A3 multifunction printer/scanner I bought couldn’t have worked out better,” wrote Thomas Browett. “I was cautious as previously I had an A4 laser, but the small drop in print text qualit y was more than made up for by the speed, duplex and flatbed scan and A3.”

The average scores here are among the lowest in any of our awards categories, suggesting this sector could do much better in looking after paying customers.
