Iiyama DS1002C review: dualscreen desk mounting arm

-

SCORE PRICE £29 (£35 inc VAT) from shop.bt.com

We’re sitting in front of a 49in screen. Or to be more accurate, two 27in 16:9 monitors sitting side by side on Iiyama’s DS1002C desk mounting arm, for we are indeed living our best Wall Street trader dream.

For £35 inc VAT, though, this is hardly the stuff of millionaires. In fact, all you need is a primary monitor that supports daisy chaining and then any secondary display. Try to use panels with the same pixel density, though, or moving windows between them will feel awkward as they shift in size. This is also where colour standards such as sRGB come in useful, as it isn’t natural to swap your attention between panels with different palettes.

Assembly is straightforward, and Iiyama makes it easy to slip the screens into position once you have the mounting arm attached: tighten the top two screws in each monitor’s VESA 100 mount, drop the panel into position, add the final two screws and tighten as required.

Although each arm offers a choice in the angles of the screen once in place, the DS1002C is better suited to a pair of 24in monitors due to the width of its arms; we had no choice but to place our 27in panels side by side in rigid alignment. You can sidestep this (and fit even larger screens, up to 30in) by using the pivot function, but this never works as well as one imagines. You can also adjust the height through 200mm, but it’s a cumbersome task once the panels are in place. Gas spring arms make this easier.

More luxurious arms are available, including Iiyama’s gas spring dual arm DS3002C for £130, but you’ll struggle to find one as good value as the DS1002C.
