Fair City’s McEwens site draws interest
A number of prospective bidders have come forward for the flagship former McEwens of Perth site.
Last Thursday was the closing date for interest in the large St John Street units after being marketed following the store’s closure over the summer.
Administrators have told the Perthshire Advertiser they were “encouraged”by the level of interest shown in the former department store and that they expect to make progress soon.
Blair Nimmo, UK head of restructuring at KPMG and joint administrator to McEwens of Perth, said:“A closing date of Thursday, October 27, has been set for the sale of the former McEwens of Perth store in St John Street after interest was expressed by a number of bidders.
“We have not seen any proposals for the site, but we expect bidders to outline their intentions when they submit their offers.
“We are encouraged by the level of interest, and hope to conclude a sale that will breathe new life into this attractive site.” Units on the McEwens of Perth site
The Perthshire Advertiser understands that mixed retail and flats developments are among the proposals which have been considered by potential owners.
We also asked the administrator for the price expected from the sale of the McEwens site, but hey did not respond to that request.
Again the Perthshire Advertiser understands that figures in excess of £1m have been asked for the prime site.
There has been no indication on the future of McEwens’site on Watergate.
