Nightclub glass assault thug dodges prison
Unpaid work and £500 compo paid to victim
A 21-year-old who“glassed” another man in a Perth nightclub a week before Christmas was spared a jail sentence at the Sheriff Court this week.
Instead, floor manager Daniel Anderson, of Clayton Road, Bridge of Earn, was ordered to complete 280 hours of unpaid work within the next nine months.
He will also have to pay 20-year-old Stuart Walton £500 in compensation.
The accused, who is currently subject to a Community Payback Order for a previous assault, admitted attacking his victim in The Loft, South Street, on December 19 last year by striking him on the head with the glass.
Part of the charge which alleged that he also punched the victim was deleted.
The court was told that moments after the violent incident, Anderson was escorted from the premises by a security guard to be handed over to police,.
But he made off, only to be traced by officers in a nearby street a short time later.
“He had blood on his hands with slight cuts to his fingers, consistent with the smashing of a glass,” depute
Depute fiscal
fiscal Carol Whyte told the court.
Mr Walton had been out with work colleagues, socialising and having a few drinks in Perth city centre on a Friday evening.
They went to The Loft about 11.30pm and shortly afterwards he witnessed a “confrontation” between his friend and an unknown male.
“He tried to calm the situation down and approximately two minutes later Mr Walton saw the accused coming towards him with a clear glass in his hand,” explained the fiscal.
“The accused smashed the glass over the right hand side of his face.
“He did not lose consciousness but things became blurry and he did not see what happened next.
“He was taken into a side room by staff.”
While the accused was being escorted out of the premises, he told security staff: ‘Aye, it was me that f***ing bottled him.’”
Mr Walton was treated at Perth Royal Infirmary for “superficial incised wounds” on his forehead.
Anderson has convictions for headbutting another man in the Bridgend area of the city and for assault to injury.
His latest Community Payback Order will be reviewed on December 19.
