Scottish Ensemble to perform at kirk

-

Scottish Ensemble, the UK’s only professional string orchestra, will be performing at Crieff Parish Church on Saturday next week as part of a special concert to celebrate 50 years of Strathearn Music Society.

Established in 1969 and based in Glasgow, the talented group has a national and international reputation for their vibrant performances. Performing standing up, the individual players are said to bring an energetic and passionate dynamic to every performance.

Founded in 1966 as the Strathearn Arts Guild, Strathearn Music Society was formed to encourage and promote the appreciation of classical music, especially to younger audiences.

Throughout the last 50 years the group has bought some of the world’s leading musicians to perform to Crieff audiences, including the legendary muse of Benjamin Britten, Sir Peter Pears.

The Scottish Ensemble will be performing a programme to celebrate the string repertoire – including Vivaldi’s Four Special Perthshire concert

Seasons, two quartet’s by the society’s patron, Sir James MacMillan, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Fauré and Debussy. The evening gets under way at 7.30pm. Season tickets are available for the society’s five remaining concerts of the season at the reduced price of £40.

Otherwise, single tickets for the night are available at the door for £10 (students £3 and under 18s free).
