McKay pleased with the performance

Perthshire Rugby coach Rory McKay reckons his side edged Saturday’s clash with Dalziel.

The Eagles were leading heading into the latter stages but eventually settled for an 18-18 draw.

“It was a difficult one because nobody likes a draw,” McKay said. “We definitely improved our performance and probably just edged the game.

“We had a couple of individual hiccups but held on to the majority of possession.

“We lost Duncan Clow to injury and after that the guys couldn’t have tried harder.

“Dalziel scored a nice try at the end so, in terms of that, it was difficult to take.

“We could have been smoother in closing out the game but I always want the guys to go out and play - and they did that.”

A difficult trip to the take on Dumfries Saints, who sit second in the current standings, awaits this weekend.

“We’ll be striving to improve,” McKay told the Perthshire Advertiser. “Dumfries will be favourites and it’s always a difficult place to go.

“I was chatting to the Dalziel coaches and we were saying how anyone can beat anyone in this league, which is exciting.

“So at the end of the day good teams will be getting relegated. We need to work hard to make sure that we’re not one of them.

“Everyone in this squad brings something to the team. What is lacking just now is the experience.”
