Honouring our fallen
Perth and Kinross will pause to remember the fallen of conflicts at ceremonies starting on Friday.
In Perth remembrance events will be held on Armistice Day and on Remembrance Sunday.
On Friday, a short remembrance service will be held at the 51st Highland Memorial at the North Inch, Perth at 10am.
Organisations will then gather for the PoppyScotland Act of Remembrance at the Mercat Cross on King Edward Street, and will lay a poppy wreath and observe a two minute silence at 11am.
Also on Friday Bowerswell will hold its Remembrance Service conducted by minister of Kinnoull Parish Church, Rev Graham Crawford at 10.30am. There will be a two minute silence at 11am and wreath laying at the memorial followed by sherry and shortbread at the Forteviot Lounge.
On Sunday, the Provost, councillors, council officers and members of the High Constables of the City of Perth will form the annual civic Remembrance Sunday parade. Led by Perth and District Pipe Band, the parade will leave from outside 2 High Street at 10.25 am and proceed to St John’s Kirk for the service of remembrance via King Edward Street and North St John’s Place.
The traditional military parade comprising local veterans, representatives of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and cadets will assemble at Thimblerow car park at 10am.
Events in Sunday will also include a recital of popular music from both world wars, played on the St John’s Kirk carillon.
The free public recital at starts at noon on the bells of St John’s and watchers can also see Dr Ian Cassells, the Perth City Carilloneur, on the big screens in the Kirk.
In Kinross an all-age service will be held at the parish church followed by a parade to the County War Memorial for the twominutes’ silence at 11am.
