Arrests are made in bonfire crackdown
Week-long police patrols
Police were out on patrol across Perth and Kinross in a week-long operation leading up to Bonfire Night which resulted in a number of arrests for various alleged offences.
Operation Quest ran from October 29 until November 5 during which officers undertook high-visibility patrols, executed search warrants and carried out stop and searches, particularly in Perth city centre.
A number of people were arrested and charged including one man for drug offences, one man for theft, a woman for being drunk and incapable and another man reported for assault. Two search warrants were also executed.
In addition officers along with Special Constables visited retailers and encouraged them not to sell eggs, flour and fireworks to youths to reduce the number of incidents of anti-social behaviour across the area ahead of Bonfire Night.
A crime prevention stand was also set up within the St Johns Centre in Perth and officers were on hand to provide advice on personal safety and home security. They also gave away bag bells to members of the public to ensure their bags and purses are safe when out shopping.
Inspector Kevin Chase said: “I hope this operation provided increased public confidence and reassurance to our local communities that Police Scotland is committed to reducing the number of victims of crime in Perth and Kinross. We worked in conjunction with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the local authority to ensure everyone had a safe Bonfire Night.
“This operation focused on those who are causing harm in our communities and on our streets and this will not be tolerated, we are dedicated to keeping people safe.
“We are keen to hear from anyone in the community who has any concerns about criminal activity or anti social behaviour.
“Anyone who wants to report such activity should contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
