Man admits seizing wife by the clothing

-

A Perth woman locked herself in the bathroom and phoned the police after her drunken husband started verbally abusing her.

During the argument, 41-year-old Andrew Jack, of Cleeve Park, grabbed hold of her dressing gown, ripping the belt loop, as she made her way upstairs.

Perth Sheriff Court was told that the accused had been drinking wine and was so inebriated that he had fallen out of bed earlier in the evening.

The unemployed crane driver, who gave a bail address in Invergordon, had his sentence deferred until April 19 when he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court.

He has been ordered to stay out of further trouble while he “addresses his difficulties,” the court heard.

Sheriff Richard McFarlane had deferred sentence for a background report after noting it was the second incident of a domestic nature in the relationship.

Jack admitted that on October 9, at his home, he shouted and swore, acted in an aggressive manner towards his wife, made abusive comments towards her and seized her by the clothing.

Depute fiscal Rebecca Kynaston told the court that the couple had been together 14 years and had been married since 2010.

“There had been various arguments between them over the weekend,” she explained.

They were in the livingroom about 8pm when he started drinking wine and became “increasingly aggressive.”

He began swearing at her and she “ran to the bathroom” before contacting the police.

Solicitor Rosie Scott told the court: “He accepts his behaviour was totally inappropriate.”

They were “in the course of splitting up” and she had been texting an expartner in Preston whom she had arranged to visit.
