Comrie date for folk star Album launch event
Top folk act Ewan MacPherson, of Shooglenifty fame, is set to entertain at the White Church in Comrie on Saturday.
Promoted by Comrie-based Chris’s Gigs, Ewan will be accompanied by five more of Scotland’s best trad musicians on an evening planned to launch his selfpenned album ‘FETCH’.
Chris Grace, of Chris’s Gigs, said: “To do this he will have the help of a number of the best musicians Scotland has to offer including virtuoso violinist and viola player Lauren MacColl; bouzouki whizz, Old Blind Dog and trad musician of the year Aaron Jones; Gabe McVarish, the renowned Californian and now Scottish west coast fiddler; Fin Moore - natural-born piper and pipe maker from Dunkeld; and master box and melodeon player Ben Farmer.
“Between them they play in more big named Scottish contemporary trad bands than you could shake a stick at.”
Ewan has been working in the music industry for 20 years.
As a multi-instrumentalist he is a recognised figure on the vibrant Scottish music scene.
He is a founder member of three bands – Fribo, RoughCoastAudio and Salt House – and has graced stages around the world.
He was nominated for Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2014 MG Alba Trad Music Awards and is currently a member of renowned acid-croft band Shooglenifty and also tours with Perthshire’s own Patsy Reid.
Chris added: “He plays mandolin, mandola, jaw harp, six and 12 string guitars, banjo and harmonium.
“We also have, up first on the same evening, Braco resident Nat Chalamanda’s band Moyenda.”
Tickets are £15 from the eventbrite website, Comrie PO or Hansen’s Kitchen.
