Letham weight-loss winners get set to party

Five inspirational slimmers from Perth are getting ready to celebrate in style this party season after winning weight-loss competitions in their local slimming group.

Slimming World’s annual Miss Slinky and Mr Sleek competitions recognise members who have transformed and now look great in their seasonal party clothes, with national winners standing to win a £2000 prize.

Four Fair City-based women – Donna McAlpine, Denise Paterson, Laura Bennett and Lorna Tunstal – were jointly voted Miss Slinky 2016 at Riverside Church and the Letham Community Club Slimming World group, after they lost almost 12 stone in weight between them.

Dougie Johnston, who has lost over four stone, was named the Letham group’s Mr Sleek 2016.

After shedding the pounds, the St Johnstone fan was at last able to put on a Saints shirt in his size.

Dougie (32) commented: “Being voted for by the other members of the group is really great because it’s thanks to them and their support – and our consultant Jo – that we’ve stayed committed to losing the weight that we have.

“As a man, joining a slimming group was a big decision and very nerve-wracking, but I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”

All the Perth winners say they were thrilled to win their respective titles, three have also achieved their ultimate target weights.

Lorna (51), who has lost fiveand-a-half stone in just 25 weeks, said: “I was already looking forward to this Christmas and winning the title of Miss Slinky means I have even more to celebrate.

“I still have more weight to lose but am completely focused and know that with Slimming World I will get to my target.”

Jo Steventon, who runs three Slimming World groups in Perth and Crieff, is extremely proud of all of her members.

She said: “Christmas is a time of year for getting dressed up and having a good time.

“However, when people are overweight they often dread it because they feel uncomfortable and out of place at parties.

“This year I know all our winners

Perth man Dougie prior to his weight loss will feel completely different from previous years. They definitely live up to their new titles of Miss Slinky and Mr Sleek in my eyes.”

Jo runs groups at Riverside Church (Wednesdays), Letham Community Club (Thursdays) and at the Crieff Royal British Legion (Mondays) at either 5.30pm or 7.30pm. New members can simply pop along or if they’d like more information they can call Jo on 07946 339031.
