The eager youngsters combined traditional with a bit of fun aerobics to perform a ‘Highland Hustle’.

The idea for the Highland dance-inspired event came from Gillian Urquhart, a parent of children in school, who came in to talk to the P7 children about starting up her own business and some of the challenges and rewards associated with this.

She then taught the P7s all 64 of them - some of the moves associated with the ‘Highland Hustle’ with a view to having a whole school event on St Andrew’s Day.

Inspired senior pupils then rose to the challenge of teaching each of the other classes across the school. Teams of four or four experts went along to PE slots and taught the moves to the children. That culminated on Wednesday with the whole school effort comprising around 500 youngsters braving the weather for the dance.

A spokesperson for the school said: “It’s been a great opportunity for the P7s to take on a ‘leadership’ role within the school community, but also a fantastic chance for Gillian to spread the word about her business too.”
