Morna Cook MBE with brother David, left, and dad Ian A former Perth High School pupil has been awarded an MBE for her services to the UK music industry.

Morna Cook was formally made a Member of the British Empire on Friday, November 25, when she was presented with her medal by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

Morna launched the British music industry’s first paid work experience programme back 2009 and soon after took on the role of head of HR for Universal Music UK, the biggest in the country.

By paying the London living wage to everyone joining Universal Music UK as an intern, the pioneering scheme has helped to launch the careers of young people from all backgrounds and all parts of the UK.

It earned recognition in the House of Commons where it was singled out as a“fantastic leader in the field of paid internships”.

Morna was joined at the Royal residence by her father Ian Cook, of Scone, and her brother David Cook, another Fair City resident.

David Joseph, chairman and CEO of Universal Music UK said: “Morna’s pioneering approach has broadened opportunities for many whose circumstances would otherwise have prevented them getting that crucial first foot in the door.

“It has inspired others who might not even have tried.”

And he concluded:“It is not going too far to say that Morna’s work at the grassroots is changing the face of our industry for the better.”
