A gluten-free haggis deal for Howie butchers
Perthshire-based butcher firm Simon Howie has secured new deals with supermarket giants Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons and Asda for its new gluten-free haggis.
The company, which operates out of Dunning, said the gluten-free haggis will also be available to food service customers – pubs, hotels and restaurants – from this month.
Simon Howie Butchers estimate the new product will add more than £300,000 in sales in the year ahead of more than £3 million in overall haggis sales, including traditional and vegetarian versions.
And, crucially, the supermarket supply deals will be in place ahead of Burns’Night in January, supporting customers with specific dietary needs to celebrate the Scots Bard’s night.
Simon Howie said:“We are delighted to announce the launch of the world’s first widely-available gluten-free haggis.
“I’m passionate about the food we produce and delighted that we’ve extended the range to allow more people to enjoy it.”
He added:“The‘free from’food sector is growing rapidly as more and more consumers become increasingly discerning about the food they eat.
“And while there is a significant demand for gluten-free foods from coeliacs, we are also confident that this new product will appeal to a wider number of healthy eaters.” Dunning-based butcher Simon Howie
