In good ‘Companye’ for a festive concert

A suitably festive afternoon of entertainm­ent has been lined up by Strathearn Music Society on Sunday next week.

Crieff ’s St Andrew’s Halls will be the venue for the popular club’s annual yuletide concert, which will take place from 3pm and feature a performanc­e by the Musicke Companye.

Known as one of the most gifted and musically intelligen­t of all of the early music groups, the star turns will perform a programme of music, poetry and prose – all woven together into a series of dramatic, choreograp­hed, scenes celebratin­g the season.

The Musicke Companye was formed in 1991 to explore the rich and varied world of baroque vocal chamber music, bringing together musiciansh­ip and stagecraft in highly original and dynamic programmes.

Since then, the ensemble has been in increasing demand – performing regularly throughout Europe on stage, radio and TV.

Featuring the pure, beautiful, tones of soprano Philippa Hyde and counter-tenor Tim Carlson, audiences can expect enjoy the rare opportunit­y to hear such accomplish­ed singers performing together.

The remaining members of the Companye include Jennifer Janse on baroque ’cello and Helen Rogers on harpsichor­d.

In addition to singing, Tim will also play the natural trumpet.

A spokespers­on for the society said: This promises to be a delightful and unique way of starting the festive season for the whole family.”

Tickets are £10, with students priced at £3 and those under the age of 18 permitted entry free of charge.

They are available from Carnelian Crafts, Comrie Street, or at the door of the Strathearn Terrace venue.
