Get the swing on point...

-

Tiger Woods is back to competitive action this week in the Hero World Challenge, following a 15-month layoff.

Having watched a bit of his practice footage online, it looks like he has been working on creating a better movement through impact, more similar to when he was at his prime and less trapped than in recent years.

Today’s exercise is all about getting cleared at impact and generating power through the leverage of the body.

Step 1 - Sit your ball on a low tee holding the club on your right hand only. Point your left forefinger at the golf ball and then swing back to around shoulder high (pic 1).

Step 2 - Now make a slow motion movement down to impact and as your club and right arm swing toward the ball, in unison you should make your left arm swing toward you target.

By the time the club head reaches the ball, your left forefinger should be pointing to your target (pic 2).

Step 3 – Repeat this movement twice before holding the club with both hands and hitting a full shot, making sure to complete your finish (pic 3).

For this exercise to be effective, you do not need to hit a golf ball and it can be done just as well at home, simply focusing on the movement down to impact.

The key is that you must not allow your right hand to pull the club down to impact without your left side clearing away.

With a bit of practice, you will really start to feel how it’s the body that controls the swing.
