We must table our bid for top six finish

-

Richard Foster knows St Johnstone have the quality to cement another top six placing in the Scottish Premiership.

The 31-year-old is aware how tight the league table is this season and insists it’s important to continue looking up the current standings.

“It’s an incredible league,” Foster said.“We had a good start to the season so it’s about getting back on the winning trail and hopefully cement a place in the top six.

“From sixth to 12th there is only a two point difference so it’s very tight and you don’t Richard Foster

want to get drawn down the bottom. Then it becomes a battle.

“You need to be positive and know in the dressing room that you have good enough players to be in the top six. Before I got here, the boys proved that in the last four or five seasons.

“We know we have the quality it’s just about going out on the pitch on a Saturday and getting the right result.”

Saints return from a break in competitive action last week to face off against Inverness at McDiarmid Park on Saturday

Striker Steven MacLean shows off the book, which is available to order

Defender Foster afternoon.

And Foster said:“Inverness are relatively good on the ball and also don’t mind a physical battle. They will fight and scrap for every ball.

“Richie Foran seems to get them working hard so we know it’s going to be a tough game. They beat us up in Inverness albeit we never really performed.

“We’re at home and need to get that going this season because it’s been a bit of a problem. The concession of cheap goals has plagued us a little this season.

“In a lot of games we’ve played well but come away with a point when it should have been three. If a team is to score you want to make them have to work for it and, on a couple of occasions, we haven’t done that.

“The break has allowed us to get a few boys back fit and in that respect it was good for the team.”
