Police back on scene of brazen bank raid

‘Positive feedback’after man walks away with cash

- Melanie Bonn

Police officers were set to return to the scene of a Perthshire bank robbery on Tuesday this week – exactly one week since a man in a hooded top walked off with cash from the premises.

Having released CCTV pictures on Friday of a man they wish to speak to in connection with last Tuesday’s robbery at the Bank of Scotland in High Street, Dunkeld, officers are responding to “positive feedback” in the effort to identify the individual, seen entering the bank at 11.25am.

Bank staff were forced to hand over a three-figure sum of cash in the brazen daytime raid.

Officers hope that returning to the scene from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday – around the same time as the raid last week – may jog the memories of passersby and motorists.

They have asked any drivers who were in the area at the time who have dashcam footage or anyone who recognises the man in the images, to contact them.

The lone suspect is described as being white with fair eyebrows, aged 20-30, about 5’9’’ or 5’10’’, medium build, wearing a black hooded top with a red or orange design on the front and blue jeans. He is understood to have a Perthshire accent.

Detective Inspector Tom Leonard said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to speak to our officers and help us with our enquiries.

“We are keen to trace the man shown in the images as we believe that he may have information that will assist us with our investigation.

“To help with his possible identification, I would ask that you disregard the grey box on the back of the man’s top that is shown in one of the images, as this is not part of his clothing, and it is understood that the back of his top is black in colour.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on the non-emergency number, 101.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
