Making a bee line for award

Concert Hall’s green win

- Staff reporter

Perth Concert Hall has won one of the UK’s most prestigious environmental awards – partly for keeping 40,000 bees in its roof!

The Fair City cultural hub scooped the Green Award at the UK Event Awards, which took place in London on December 1.

Horsecross Arts, the charity behind the concert hall and Perth Theatre, also collected the commendation in the UK Large Venue of the Year Award.

The latter category saw the local focal point pitched in against stellar names such as O2 Arena in London, Twickenham Stadium – the home of the England rugby union side, Manchester Central Station and the International Centre in Telford.

Horsecross Arts chief executive Gwilym Gibbons said: “We were delighted to have been nominated for two prestigious awards at the UK Event Awards, which recognises those at the top of their game within the UK events industry –a sector which is widely recognised as world leader.

“To win the Green Award and receive a commendation for the UK Large Venue of the Year Award is truly the icing on the cake. It is absolutely fantastic!

“We are very proud of what we have achieved in recent years to minimise our impact on the environment and we continue to do all we can to be as green as we can be.

“Our staff are the stars of the show, working tirelessly across all departments to make every visit special for everyone who comes through our doors.

“I would like to congratulate each and every team member

The award-winning Perth Concert Hall behind this amazing awards success, including all our 40,000 bees currently tucked up for the winter in our beehive on our roof!”

Horsecross chairman Magnus Linklater said: “To be recognised alongside iconic venues including O2 and Twickenham Stadium is a real testament to the Horsecross team and the unique venue we love.

“Perth Concert Hall enables us to stage a huge variety of events from our own festivals and productions to visiting acts across all genres, as well as welcoming organisations of all sizes to host conferences and meetings.

“Every musician who plays there recognises its great acoustic qualities, which is why they come back again and again.

“We are grateful to our audiences, clients, supporters and funders for their continuing loyalty and support.”
