Just three cannabis plants seized in cop raid

- Court reporter

A Perth man who started to grow his own cannabis is to be sentenced early in the new year.

Tyler Abbott’s efforts proved less than successful, Perth Sheriff Court was told.

For police, in possession of a search warrant, seized just three plants, neither of which had reached maturity, after raiding his property.

The 30-year-old, who has a previous conviction for possessing drugs, will discover his fate on January 5.

He admitted producing the controlled Class B drug at his home at Mount Tabor Cottage, Muirhall Road, Perth, on January 31.

A not guilty plea was accepted to a second charge of being in possession of the same drug.

Depute fiscal Craig Donald said that “no value”had been attributed to the three plants.

Solicitor Paul Ralph said:“This wasn’t a sophisticated operation.”

Cannabis had been a“long-standing issue”with Abbott and the drug had been for his own personal consumption.

“One day he will grow out of it,” added the lawyer.

Because of his record, sentence was deferred until January 5 for a Community Justice Social Work report.

Drugs paraphernalia, which included lights and a thermometer, was ordered to be forfeited.

• A Scone joiner was given a Community Payback Order after he was caught with almost £250 worth of cocaine.

Twenty-two-year-old Ross Marshall, of Mansfield Road, was given three months to complete 60 hours of unpaid work.

He admitted having the Class A drug in his possession at Perth Police HQ on April 9.

He had originally been charged with being concerned in the supply of the drug.

The court heard that 5.8 grammes of cocaine, with a street value of £240, were discovered.

Solicitor Cliff Culley said Marshall had previously used the drug socially but had now stopped the habit.

Marshall, who admitted previous convictions, hoped to get work soon but had no income at present.

• A Perth man caught with cocaine in a city street, was fined £300.

Twenty-year-old Shaun Sutherland, of Simpson Square, admitted having the substance in Scott Street on June 25.

The drug, weighing .05 grammes when analysed, had a street value of £20.

The accused will pay the fine at the rate of £25 a week.

• A Perth man, found in suspicious circumstances on a city industrial estate, will be sentenced at the Sheriff Court on December 7.

A background report has been ordered on 30-year-old Peter Forrest, of Nimmo Avenue.

He admitted that on June 10, he was found in the boundary of George Campbell, at Whitefriars, without lawful authority.

In all the circumstances, it might reasonably be inferred he intended to commit theft there.

He will be sentenced on December 7, when the details of the offence will be given.
