-

Strathallan’s under-16 rugby squad will have aspirations of picking up silverware this week.

The Perthshire school are heading for Murrayfield on Wednesday for the third time in four years to face off against St Aloysius College in Scottish Rugby’s Schools Cup final.

Strath knocked Dollar Academy out of the competition in the semi-final in what was a closely fought match which finished with a 21–12 triumph.

Also in Edinburgh this week will be Strathallan’s 1st XV, who are set to play Glenalmond College on the back pitches at Murrayfield in the Shield competition.

Director of rugby, Andy Henderson, said:“Both teams are really looking forward to their respective finals on Wednesday evening at BT Murrayfield.

“Preparations have been excellent in the leadup and the players have all bought into key practice sessions which have been looking to make little improvements in every player to help the performance on Wednesday night.

“The players are all very positive and know that only their best performance will give them the prize they are all so desperate to have after the final whistle blows.

“The whole school are travelling to support the teams and this, along with parents, friends, family and ex-pupils, will mean a huge amount to the players when they can hear everyone cheering them on.

“Finals are very special moments for everyone and I really believe in this group of young men and know they will do all they can to make everyone proud of them on Wednesday.”

Strathallan has a strong reputation for developing rugby players in recent years.

Glasgow Warrior and current Scotland number three Zander Fagerson, Scotland Sevens player George Horne, Edinburgh and Scotland under-20 player Jamie Ritchie, Glasgow Warrior Matt Fagerson and Scotland under-20 Murray McCallum are among their alumni.
