- Matthew Gallagher

Liam Craig is proud to have netted 50 goals for the club St Johnstone’s Liam Craig bagged his 50th goal for the club at the weekend – and then insisted he isn’t done yet.

The Perth midfielder has become a favourite with the fans during his time at McDiarmid Park, chipping in with valuable goals and helping to create lasting memories.

Now Craig, who admits there was a hint of relief surrounding his opener against Inverness on Saturday, wants the success on a personal and squad level to continue in Perth.

While the half-century has been clocked up, the 29-year-old joked that netting 100 for Saints could be a step too far.

“It’s a relief to get the 50th goal because, sitting on 49, it’s always in the back of your mind,” Craig told the Perthshire Advertiser. “I’m delighted to get it.

“To score 50 goals for the club is a great achievement and it’s one I’m proud of. Hopefully there are a few more still to come.

“I think if I could get 100 career goals it would be incredible. To get 100 for St Johnstone, then I’ll need to play until I’m about 45 or 50!

“Derek McInnes signed me as an attacking midfielder and hopefully over the seasons I’ve proven what I can do with my goals and assists. I’m still only 29 so hopefully I’ve got a few seasons in me yet.”

In terms of his most memorable goals for the club, Craig added: “The one away

character again. I was really pleased for them.”

Midfielder Paul Paton will be accessed this week after picking up an ankle knock at the end of last week. But the rest of the squad are ticking along nicely.

“DavidWotherspoon took a wee knock and we took him out of training but he will be fine,”Wright said.

“Paton hurt his ankle on Friday. It seemed alright at the time but it swelled up overnight and we had to change things. We will monitor him over the course of the week.

“Hopefully he won’t need a scan but we will have to if it doesn’t improve. Watson is pretty close to getting into the squad. We will see whether he needs another U20s game or not.”
