Another draw but Perth side almost snatch win

For the second time in the league this season, the scoreboard remained blank following 90 minutes of football between St Johnstone and Aberdeen.
It’s a result which further emphasises the notion that these two teams have found their match, particularly in the past couple of seasons.
Those not in attendance at Pittodrie at the weekend would perhaps assume that this Saturday afternoon blank was a borefest. Watching paint dry kind of stuff.
But, certainly for large spells of this contest, that wasn’t the case. Chances did present themselves for both sides and it was perhaps the Perth men who had the more clear-cut.
The Dons snatched a Betfred Cup quarterfinal victory over Saints at this venue earlier in the year courtesy of an Adam Rooney last-minute winner. This game offered up distinct similarities.
None more so than when midfielder David Wotherspoon curled a free-kick off the post, again, with little over five minutes remaining on referee Kevin Clancy’s watch.
It was a divine swing of the right boot which agonisingly failed to breach the home net.
Before any of this drama unfolded there was a blow for boss Tommy Wright as influential Danny Swanson, who has 12 goals to his name this season, was ruled out with a hip injury. His exclusion from the pre-match teamsheet was a surprise.
