Harry’s Higher physics pass mark is the best in the whole country
A Breadalbane Academy pupil set the gold standard for this year’s Higher physics exam, with the best mark in Scotland.
Talented science student Harry McLachlan, a sixth-year pupil, made his family and school proud when it was revealed he had achieved the top mark in the country for the tough exam.
The 17-year-old, who is Head Boy at the Aberfeldy school, was invited to a special awards ceremony in Edinburgh to celebrate.
The event was attended by a range of people from across the political spectrum, including Deputy First Minister and Perthshire North MSP John Swinney — who is also the Scottish Government’s Minister for Education. Experts from industry, education and local authorities were also present.
Harry collected his award, watched by parents Linda and Crawford and teacher Stuart Blair, before attending a drinks reception and buffet at the capital’s Dynamic Earth.
Breadalbane Academy headteacher, John Devine, said:“I am delighted by Harry’s performance which illustrates the very high quality of learning and teaching in Breadalbane Academy.
“It is fitting that Harry is also Head Boy this year, as he is a fabulous role model to pupils throughout the school
“Harry’s award comes as no surprise to those that know him but must be put in perspective when considering the 10,000 or so pupils who sat the examination in 2016.
“The conversation after the award was a happy one for all those involved in educating and supporting Harry as he has a very bright future ahead.”
