Big Lottery Fund gives a £150,000 boost to Perth and Kinross ADHD group

-

Big Lottery Fund Scotland deputy director Neil Ritch, ADHD group director Chris Ahern, ADHD group coordinator Lorna Redford and St Johnstone’s Roddy Grant, a patron of the group Perth and Kinross ADHD Support Group recently received a £150,000 funding boost.

The Big Lottery funding grant will be used to develop the charity’s crisis response programme and services for local families.

Representatives of the Fair City-based good cause recently met Maureen Watt, the Scottish Government’s Minister for Mental Health, at McDiarmid Park in Perth, to highlight the need for greater support for children and young people dealing with ADHD and the many and varied neurodevelopmental issues it coexists with.

Lorna Redford, group services coordinator for the local charity, said: “At present, we only have a small team of part-time staff and we are unable to meet the needs of our growing number of families and the increasing complexity of their issues.

“We are now in a position to recruit new staff and to develop and deliver a more sustainable programme of services.

“As a group, we have always focused on ensuring our families are nurtured, be educated and ‘upskilled’to tackle the challenges they face on a daily basis.”

She added:“We are delighted the Big Lottery recognises the need for support for our amazing families and our group will strive to deliver the very best service we can over the coming years.

“We hope that the recent session with the minister will mean greater strides forward in the support of ADHD at a national level.”
