Foreign book titles join library
Innerpeffray Singers at St Mary’s Chapel Culture Perth and Kinross in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council’s adult and family learning team, launched their second ‘Little Free Library’ for foreign language books at Blairgowrie Library on Friday, December 16.
Little Free Libraries (LFL) exist all over the world, to promote a love of reading and bring communities together through the free exchange of books.
They come in many shapes and sizes, but the most common version is a small wooden box of books and anyone may take a book or bring a book to share.
Blairgowrie’s Little Free Library was made by a member of the local community group ‘Men’s Shed Perth’ and was painted by a Perth College art student.
Beata Gromek will be the LFL Blairgowrie steward, keeping an eye on what’s been donated so she can help people find a suitable title.
Books in any foreign language can be freely taken or donated to this little wooden library and we hope that it will bring a little joy, a little more connection and a whole lot more books to the community.
Perth’s first ‘Little Free Library’ for foreign language books has been running since September in the main entrance of AK Bell Library.
It houses a constantly changing collection of books which are being shared by people of all nationalities, backgrounds and ages.
“We have been so pleased to see people stopping by, taking books and donating books for others to read. Just last week we had new donations of books in French, Finnish and Swedish,” explained Renata Fraser, adult literacies coordinator.
“Each week brings something new and we have already more than doubled the number of books that we started off with in September.
“Our lovely Perth Shed library found a home at the Centrum Edukacyjne Bajka Youth Integration Project CIC, NCOC Annexe, Perth, so as of last week, we now have three Little Free Libraries up and running.”
