Hotel’s apprentice honour
Gleneagles’general manager Paul Heery with some of the Modern Apprentices from the hotel The Gleneagles Hotel has received Skills Development Scotland’s (SDS) Youth Employer of the Month award.
The iconic Perthshire property currently has 34 Modern Apprentices working in different areas of the business, including hospitality services, professional cookery, management, horticulture and hairdressing.
And it is looking to take on a further 16 apprentices right now — nine in sports turf greenkeeping and seven in hospitality.
The five-star hotel was recently recognised for its commitment to providing training and employment opportunities when it was awarded Investor in Young People status. Speaking about the hotel’s latest award manager Paul Heery said:“We’re proud to be an employer of choice — providing rewarding career opportunities, nurturing talent, supporting skill development and establishing strong links with educational institutions.
“This is reflected in a range of initiatives which seek to enhance young people’s career prospects. It includes our commitment to the Scottish Apprenticeship in Hospitality scheme.”
The chairman of SDS, John F McClelland CBE, commented: “Gleneagles is to be commended for its support of young people.”
