Hotel’s apprentice honour

Gleneagles’general manager Paul Heery with some of the Modern Apprentice­s from the hotel The Gleneagles Hotel has received Skills Developmen­t Scotland’s (SDS) Youth Employer of the Month award.

The iconic Perthshire property currently has 34 Modern Apprentice­s working in different areas of the business, including hospitalit­y services, profession­al cookery, management, horticultu­re and hairdressi­ng.

And it is looking to take on a further 16 apprentice­s right now — nine in sports turf greenkeepi­ng and seven in hospitalit­y.

The five-star hotel was recently recognised for its commitment to providing training and employment opportunit­ies when it was awarded Investor in Young People status. Speaking about the hotel’s latest award manager Paul Heery said:“We’re proud to be an employer of choice — providing rewarding career opportunit­ies, nurturing talent, supporting skill developmen­t and establishi­ng strong links with educationa­l institutio­ns.

“This is reflected in a range of initiative­s which seek to enhance young people’s career prospects. It includes our commitment to the Scottish Apprentice­ship in Hospitalit­y scheme.”

The chairman of SDS, John F McClelland CBE, commented: “Gleneagles is to be commended for its support of young people.”
