School pupils display spirit of Christmas

- Iain Howie

Thoughtful youngsters at Forgandenny Primary School ensured that those less fortunate than themselves were given a helping hand over Christmas.

They collected donations for the FareShare franchise which gives out food to people in food poverty.

FareShare’s Transform Community Development project, led by Simon Laidlaw, gratefully picked up their collection before the break-up of school last week.

FareShare receives food deliveries from wholesalers, producers and supermarkets of unwanted food and redistribute it and surplus stock destined for the waste stream to non-profit organisations working with individuals in food poverty.

Mrs Styles from Forgandenny Primary School got in touch with FareShare to organise the collection.

A spokesperson said:“The public support the good work carried out by FareShare through Tesco’s food drives, held in stores throughout the year, where tinned or dried produce can be donated to groups working to fight food poverty.

“To have primary school children think of those in need at Christmas and take action by having their own food drive is heart-warming and embodies the spirit of the festive season.

“A big thank you this week to all of the staff and pupils of Forgandenny Primary School and Mrs Styles for their generosity.” Transform CEO Simon Laidlaw picks up donations at Forgandenny Primary
