A Bridge of Earn hair salon is celebrating 25 years in business.

Over the years, many people have stepped out of Tanya Black Hairdressing feeling like a star, but Tanya Black and her team welcomed a real Hollywood star in 2006 – when Sean Connery popped in for a haircut.

On December 1, the team welcomed clients, family, friends and locals to a special reception to mark the quarter-century milestone.

The celebration included bubbly and a special raffle to raise money for Brig in Bloom and the Perthshire Abandoned Dogs Society.

From a very young age, Tanya, who lives in Forgendenny, knew she wanted to be a hairdresser and was often found cutting her younger sister’s hair.

She studied at Perth College in 1986, while simultaneously doing

her training in the very salon she went on to buy.

In 1991, she leased the salon from its current owner and by 1992 had bought it, working with her mother Sheena as her business partner.

She built up an impressive client base that now stretches as far south as Carlisle.

In 1999, Tanya knocked through to the flat she’d bought next door to Sean Connery with Tanya Black, second right, and staff in 2006

further expand.

Then, in 2008, the salon underwent a modern revamp.

Tanya employs three others in the salon; Lindsay, who has been working with her for seven years; Nikki, who joined earlier this year and apprentice Emeli, who has been working at the salon for the past year while undergoing her training at Perth College.

Tanya said: “I can’t quite believe

that I’m celebrating 25 years since opening the salon, yet here we are!

“It’s been wonderful to share the celebrations with my team, family, clients and all the lovely locals who all came along to celebrate with us.

“Some of our clients have been coming to the salon since we opened and this celebration is a huge thanks to them too. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 25 years holds.”
