First-half strike seals victory on a stormy Ayrshire night

- Matthew Gallagher

Chris Millar breezed through 90 minutes of football and boss Wright confirmed he is ready to play against Rangers Kilmarnock ................... 0 St Johnstone ................. 1 The weather was far from kind but it was St Johnstone who stormed to victory on Friday evening to give Perth fans an early Christmas gift.

Much-heralded Storm Barbara created cause for concern that the final whistle would be blown on this Scottish Premiership contest before a ball was kicked.

Strong winds and rain battered much of Scotland but hardy travelling supporters, 154 of them, braved the conditions to watch a side who were again very competent on the road.

They were rewarded with a solitary first half goal from Murray Davidson which did the damage and secured a valuable three points.

The midfielder has been in impressive form in recent weeks but will miss this week’s Rangers game due to suspension.

It’s the time of year where parcels are being exchanged. And this Saints squad were not in the mood to be handing out any early Christmas cheer to Kilmarnock.

But Perth keeper Zander Clark was forced to shovel an awkward Rory McKenzie drive around the post after only three minutes. From there, Saints would dominate the majority of this clash.

Chris Kane’s attempt on the swivel after neat work from Richard Foster on the right flank almost led to an opener but the young forward could only find the side-netting.

There was a creativity on show from Tommy Wright’s men — no doubt aided by the return of Danny Swanson — and he looked determined to make his mark back in the first-team line-up.
