Man (34) fell down seven flights of stairs

A drunken chef brought the New Year in with a resounding crash when he fell down seven flights of stairs at his Perth city centre flat in the early hours.

The 34-year-old had been handcuffed by police and was being escorted from his house at the time, Perth Sheriff Court was told on Monday afternoon this week.

Tamasz Bagi, of Scott Street, appeared in the dock with visible evidence of his drink-fuelled tumble.

He had grazing to the left aside of his forehead and also sustained an arm injury, his lawyer, Cliff Culley, told the court.“He fell down about seven flights of stairs – this was summary justice.”

The accused, who admitted a number of previous convictions, was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work within the next four months.

He admitted resisting two police officers at his home on January 1 and attempting to push and drag Constables Claire Lowson and Ben Clark down a flight of stairs.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown said the incident took place about 1am on Sunday morning after officers were alerted to an incident at his flat.

“He was described as being heavily intoxicated and refused to acknowledge their presence,”explained the fiscal.

He was handcuffed and was being escorted outside at the time.

“The officers managed to stay on their feet and at some point he has fallen.”

Mr Culley said his client had finished work in the early hours and was“very drunk”when officers arrived at his flat.

“His recollection is somewhat limited but he does accept he was obstructive and regrets that,”said the lawyer.

Imposing the community payback order, Sheriff William Wood described the latest offence as“an escalation”of his previous offending.

The sheriff said:“This sort of conduct isn’t acceptable, no matter how drunk you were.

“You tried to deliberately push or drag officers down the stairs and that has to be viewed seriously.”
