McDonald’s‘sorry’foraskingteentoleave
Perth’s Dunkeld Road McDonald’s has been forced to apologise after staff asked a 19-year-old customer to leave for supposedly flouting a ban on under18s using the restaurant after a certain time.
The fast food outlet brought in a blanket ban on unaccompanied youths eating in at the restaurant after 7pm due to antisocial behaviour.
When 19-year-old Keiran Swindale and his friends went there last Monday they were allowed to order and pay for their food before being asked to prove their ages.
Kieran was made to pack up his halfeaten food. The other members of his group, also over 18, were also ordered to leave.
McDonald’s have now admitted the group should not have been given the boot and apologised.
Keiran, who lives in Muirton, said: “I went in with friends on Monday and it happened at 7pm on the dot.
“I got asked for ID and after they looked at it I was asked to leave.
“We managed to get food because it was just before seven but at 7pm they just handed us a bag and asked us to pack up the food.
“I only go to McDonald’s once in a blue moon and I’ve never heard of anything like this before.
“Most people kept their heads down but a couple of people were looking at us probably wondering what we did wrong. “The whole thing was embarrassing. Getting asked for ID in McDonald’s is a step too far.”
A spokeswoman for McDonald’s said: “We’d like to apologise to the customer for this inconvenience.
“Our Perth restaurant has experienced recent issues with antisocial behaviour and the decision was made to temporarily restrict access to unaccompanied under-18s after 7pm.
“In this instance, the customer was over 18 and should not have been asked to leave the restaurant.
“Measures like this are made as a last resort and these steps have only been taken after repeated attempts to resolve the issue.” McDonald’s
