Waterbills aresetto increase

-

Householders are to face increased water service charges from April, Scottish Water has announced.

People who pay for services through their council tax face a 1.6 per cent increase on their bills, meaning the average band D resident will pay a combined £430.56 annually.

Scottish Water has moved to limit how much it can add to council tax bills under an agreement which means bills will have fallen in real terms by 2021.

Douglas Millican, chief executive, said: “Scottish Water customers continue to enjoy the benefits of one of the UK’s best value water and waste water services.

“We are focused on meeting our customers’ expectations. That’s why we’re building on the significant improvements we’ve made to water services by providing value for money, stability and certainty in charge levels.”

Residents will find out next month how much their council tax will go up by.

The Scottish Government has agreed two sets of changes for bills, one of which ends the freeze in increases in place since 2007.

An upper limit of 3 per cent has been put on council tax increases which means houses in bands E to H, will see higher bills thanks to a change in the multiplier formula. General manager Pauline McLaren, left, with greenkeeper Peter Bancroft at the Marriott Hotel
