Inspirational Ida celebrates birthday 102
Ida Moran celebrates at Strathmore Day Opportunities A remarkable Blairgowrie woman celebrated her 102nd birthday in fine style at the weekend.
Ida Moran, still a regular churchgoer at the town’s St Stephen’s RC Church, marked her birthday on Sunday after Mass with a family lunch at Strathmore Golf Club near Alyth.
She was accompanied by her daughter Veronica and her son-in-law Peter, who visit every month from their home in Manchester, and her son Michael and his wife Denise from Fettercairn.
Ida also had a birthday party on Friday at the Strathmore Day Opportunities group, which meets in Blairgowrie Adult Resource Centre.
After enjoying her cake Ida said: “It’s been a lovely day. I enjoy coming here. Everyone is so friendly. The girls look after us exceptionally well and everyone is nice to one another.
“The staff here involve us in things, which is better than just letting us watch them do it.
“I would like to thank Christine for organising this wee party. I wasn’t expecting it and it was really nice.”
Christine Flemming from Strathmore Day Opportunities, said: “Ida is a lovely lady still living in her own home and is an inspiration to us all.
“She comes to us two days a week and is great fun and gets into the spirit of everything.”
Veronica added: “Mum started coming to the Strathmore Day Opportunities group about three months ago and it has rejuvenated her, giving her a new lease of life.
“She’s always got a story to tell about what she’s being doing at the centre and everyone there is just wonderful with her.
“I can’t speak highly enough of the team at the centre. They are wonderful.”
Veronica added: “Mum still goes to church and has a cuppa and shortbread at the Royal Hotel in Blairgowrie every week with Pat and Annette from St Stephen’s. She loves the shortbread there.
“It makes such a difference, knowing that people are so good to her.” Ida with daughter Veronica Butler
